Chess puzzle of the day
Today's puzzle is a smothered mate puzzle: White to move, find the checkmate. Pick Easy and three numbered arrows show three moves, so you tap the box for the one that is checkmate. Medium names the moves. Hard and Super use the open board. Positions come from the Lichess database (CC0).

How does Three Arrows work?
At Easy the board shows three arrows, numbered 1, 2 and 3, each a different colour and shape. Under the board are three boxes with the same numbers. One move is checkmate and two are not. Tap the box you think traps the king. A wrong box dims and Peabody says why, out loud: for example, "That's check, but the king can run." The right box plays the move and names the pattern. It all runs on this device; nothing you tap is sent anywhere.
