Crab Croissant for kids: the whole recipe

Pinch pinch! Let's turn a croissant into a crab that scuttles sideways. This easy no-cook recipe is for ages 5 to 10 (grades K–4th), takes about 10 minutes and serves 2. Crumb, our tiny chef, reads every step aloud with a picture, so a child can follow along.

Ingredients

• 2 croissants
• 12 pretzel sticks
• 1 handful pretzels
• 4 candy eyes

Tools

A plate.

Steps

1. Wash your hands with soap for twenty seconds.
2. Set 2 croissants on a plate, with the tips pointing toward you. That's the shell!
3. Push 12 pretzel sticks into the sides, half on each side, for legs.
4. Poke a little pretzel into each end for the claws.
5. Press two candy eyes on top, near the middle.
6. Your crab is ready! Watch it scuttle sideways.

Safety notes

Crabs walk sideways because their legs bend at the sides of their bodies, so pushing sideways works best.

Make it your own

• Make a lobster with a long croissant and orange pepper claws.
• Make the claws from bits of red pepper instead of pretzels.
• Set your crab on a blue plate for the sea.
