Kiwi Turtles for kids: the whole recipe

Let's make turtles you can eat, shell and all. Mm-hmm! This easy no-cook recipe is for ages 5 to 9 (grades K–3rd), takes about 10 minutes and serves 2. Crumb, our tiny chef, reads every step aloud with a picture, so a child can follow along.

Ingredients

  • 2 kiwis
  • 8 grapes

Tools

A cutting board, A sharp knife (grown-up), A plate.

Steps

  1. Wash your hands with soap for twenty seconds.
  2. Grown-up step: A grown-up cuts each kiwi in half the long way, and four grapes in half too.
  3. Put a kiwi half on your plate, cut side down. That's the shell!
  4. Push a whole grape at the front for the turtle's head.
  5. Tuck four grape halves under the shell for feet: count them!
  6. Give your turtle a name. Look, it's walking!

Safety notes

Make it your own

  • Make the shell from half a green apple and the head from a blueberry.
  • Give your turtle candy eyes on its grape head.
  • Make a whole family: a big kiwi mum and little grape babies.
