Pim and the Mitten
Part One 路 A Spot of Red
Pim was a little black crow.
His nest was at the top of a pine.
One cold day, the wind gave him a push.
Pim had to flap and flap.
Then he saw a spot of red.
It was a mitten, down in the white snow.
It looked warm and soft, but it was lost.
Pim knew how it felt to be lost.
He was little, but he was brave.
He took the mitten in his beak.
It was heavy, so he flew low.
A girl stood by the garden gate.
One of her hands was pink and cold.
Pim let the mitten drop by her boot.
The girl gave a happy yell.
She put the mitten on her cold hand.
"Thank you, brave bird!" she said.
She set some seeds on the garden wall.
Pim ate them all. His belly felt warm.
Back in his nest, Pim did not feel lost.
