The Stuck Kite

Part One 路 Up and Up

Tess had a new red paper kite.

It was windy up on the hill.

Up went the kite, higher and higher.

Its yellow tail went flip, flip, flip.

Then the wind gave a sudden push.

The kite dipped into the old oak tree.

The string went tight in her hand.

So Tess gave the string a little tug.

The kite did not come down.

She gave it a bigger tug.

The twig bent and held on tight.

Dad walked over and rubbed his chin.

The wind was still tugging at the kite.

"It wants up, not down," said Tess.

So she let the string go loose.

The kite shook, then slid off the twig.

It hopped up like a happy red bird.

Tess ran down the hill, holding the string.

The yellow tail went flip, flip, flip.
