Cat care card
A cat is a small hunter that needs water, play and a calm home.
- Home
- A quiet litter box, a tall sturdy scratching post and a place to hide. Keep cats indoors.
- Food
- Meat-based cat food that a vet agrees with. A grown-up chooses it. Few treats.
- Water
- Fresh, clean water all the time. Wash and refill the bowl every day. Not milk.
- Every day
- Water, meals, a scooped litter box, and a few minutes of play.
- Every week
- Brush her coat. A grown-up changes the litter and checks her nails.
- Handling
- Let her come to you. A grown-up lifts her with one hand behind the front legs, one under the back.
- Happy signs
- Tail up with a curved tip, long naps, play, and using the post and box.
- Tell a grown-up if
- She hides a lot, stops eating, or has no energy. A vet sees her every year.
- Wash and refill the water bowl (a grown-up checks)
- Play with her for a few minutes
- Tell a grown-up if her food is left or she hides
- Wash hands after petting her
Wash your hands Wash your hands with soap after touching a cat, her dishes or her things, and after the litter box. A grown-up stays near.
