Daily Word for 6th to 8th
Daily Word is a free word game for kids in 6th to 8th. Each day every child at this level gets one word from a Peabody story, a sentence to read and 6-to-7-letter tiles. It needs no account and sends nothing off the device.
For grown-ups
What is Daily Word?
A once-a-day word game. Your child reads a sentence from a Peabody story with one word blanked, then finds it. At this level it is a 6-7-letter word, for 6th to 8th. It practises reading in context, spelling and thinking about which word could fit.
How is the word chosen?
The words come from the stories in the Peabody library. The date, in Mountain Time, picks the word from a fixed list, so every child at a level gets the same word, and it changes once at midnight in Denver. This level draws on 300 story words. Nothing your child does is sent anywhere; the day is kept in this browser.
What if my child is stuck?
A tap on the speaker reads the sentence aloud. Two letter hints are free, then the game offers three words to pick from. There is no timer and no losing: after six tries the word is shown with its meaning and the story it came from.
When does the word change?
At midnight Mountain Time. A game left open overnight picks up the new word.
Can we print it?
Yes. Print it makes two pages in black ink: the sentence with its gap and six rows of empty tiles for a pencil (at Easy, three words to circle), with a hint to fold under, then the answer, what it means and the story it came from on page 2.
Can we play an earlier day?
Yes. After a word, the last week's days are a tap away, and any day from the last 60 can be played again. Each one is kept on this device like today's.
