A rabbit has long ears and a fluffy tail. It hops on its big back feet. It likes to eat hay and greens.
Pet rabbits came from the European rabbit, a wild rabbit that digs burrows. A rabbit's front teeth never stop growing, so it needs lots of hay to chew to wear them down. When a rabbit is happy, it may jump and twist in the air.
A rabbit's long ears catch faint sounds and help it cool off on hot days. Its eyes sit high on the sides of its head, so it can watch nearly all the way around. Rabbits thump a back foot on the ground to warn each other. Pet rabbits do best with a rabbit friend, lots of room to hop, and a grown-up who learns what they need.
