For grown-ups: how the books are made
Each book is written from the animal’s own facts on Peabody, in short sentences a new reader can sound out, with the animal’s picture on every page so its name can be read from the picture. Every book is checked by the same early-reading rules as Peabody’s library: how many words on a page, which letter sounds they use, and how many different words in the whole book. A book is on this shelf only at a level it passes. They say what an animal eats, never how it hunts, and there is a two-question check at the end with three big boxes.
For older readers, every animal’s own page has three reading levels and a report sheet by grade.
