Slide Kart
Slide Kart is a free kart racing game for kids, in 3D. The child races three critter karts round short tracks in a meadow, a sunny beach, a candy canyon and the snow. Before some straights a gate spans the road with three lanes, each holding an answer: drive through the right one for a boost.
The gas is always on, so a young child only steers: the arrow keys or A and D on a computer, two big buttons on a phone or tablet, or holding either side of the road. Smart steering keeps the kart on the road whenever the child lets go. Holding a turn at speed starts a drift, and letting go after a full drift gives a burst of speed. Grass only slows a kart, and a kart that wanders off is put back on the road.
Each lap has three answer gates. As a gate comes into view, a question appears with three big answer boxes, and the same answers hang over the three lanes. Tap a box or drive through a lane. A right answer turns that lane into a boost pad and the kart steers itself into it. A wrong pick turns that lane into a puddle that slows the kart for a moment, and the question stays open for another try. When something is new to the child, the kart waits at the gate until it is answered, and the other karts wait too, so learning never costs a place.
There are eight tracks across four worlds, two laps each, and finishing a track at any place opens the next one. Coins from the finishing place, right answers and drift boosts buy new karts (a go-kart, a bathtub, a hot dog and a rocket) and six paints, and six critter drivers are free to pick. The questions fit the child, from preschool to about fifth grade: counting, sums, letters, sounds and words. In Just play every lane is a boost pad.
Slide Kart plays in the browser with no download, no sign-up and no ads. Results, coins and karts are kept in this browser, and on the child's profile when they are signed in.
