Outdoor games for kids: easy games with little or no equipment

Outdoor games need very little: a space, a few people and a rule. Here are easy ones to try outside, with the games on screen for a wet day.

Outside, with no equipment

Hopscotch: draw a line of squares in chalk, and take turns hopping through.

Simon says: one person gives orders, and the others only follow the ones that start with 'Simon says'.

Hide and seek: one person counts while the others hide, then the seeker looks.

    On a wet day

The indoor games page has screen games and no-screen games for a wet afternoon.

    Questions

Do these games need any equipment?

Almost none. A chalk line or a space to run is enough for most of them.

    What age are they for?

Most suit children from about four up, with a grown-up to keep the rules fair.
