A Bath for the Birds
Part One 路 The Tin Pan
Nell wanted a bird in her yard.
No birds came. Not one.
So Nell made a bird bath.
She got a big tin pan.
She filled it with cold water.
She set it in the grass.
A bird came. It looked. It flew away.
Nell looked at the pan. It was too deep.
Birds need a place to stand.
Nell got a flat rock. She put it in.
The rock stuck up like a little step.
Then Nell sat down. Very, very still.
A wren came. It stood on the rock.
It dipped. It shook. Drops flew like rain.
