The Dream Sock is a fabric sock with a pulse-oximeter sensor that a baby wears on one foot during sleep. A base station glows and sounds if the baby's pulse rate or oxygen level leaves preset ranges, and the Owlet Dream app shows live readings and sleep trends. Owlet says it is FDA-cleared through a De Novo pathway. It fits babies about 1-18 months. An earlier Smart Sock was pulled from U.S. sale in 2021 after an FDA warning letter.
Our take: May reassure parents who want oxygen readings and accept a cloud-linked health device; it is not a substitute for safe-sleep practices, and anxious parents may find alarms add stress.

What's good
- FDA clearance for the current model
- Live readings without a subscription
- Clear base-station alerts
- Accuracy tested across skin tones, per Owlet
Watch for
- Health data goes to Owlet's cloud
- Ad cookies on Owlet's sites
- False alarms can raise worry
- Earlier model pulled after FDA warning in 2021
Data and privacy
Owlet collects the child's first name and health information plus heart rate, oxygen levels, sleep patterns and room conditions. Its policy (July 2026) says it does not sell data for money but lets partners such as Google place ad cookies, and may use de-identified data for research without restriction. Read the privacy policy.
Does it work?
A 2018 JAMA study of 30 infants found the earlier Owlet Smart Sock 2 detected low oxygen inconsistently and gave false low readings; the Dream Sock is a newer, FDA-cleared model. Owlet cites its own clearance testing of plus or minus 3% accuracy.
