Varsity Tutors

By Nerdy Inc.. Visit Varsity Tutors

Desk research from the maker's own pages. Not yet tried by us. Checked 2026-10-24.

An online tutoring service that matches students from elementary school through college with live one-on-one tutors in 3,000+ subjects, plus weekly live group classes, SAT/ACT and AP prep, and practice tests. Sessions happen by video on Nerdy's own platform with a shared whiteboard, and every session is recorded for replay. Newer add-ons include AI session summaries, adaptive practice problems and an AI tutor for explanations and flashcards between sessions. Schools also buy it for district tutoring programs.

Our take: Useful for families who want live one-on-one help, especially for test prep; get prices and cancellation terms in writing, and decide whether you are comfortable with recorded sessions.

Data and privacy

Collects names, ages, messages, documents, assessments and voice and video from sessions, which are recorded. The policy uses data for marketing and advertising and shares de-identified data with advertisers, but says it blocks ad partners from school data and puts no targeted-ad tracking where students use it through a school; it states COPPA and FERPA compliance. Nothing on training AI with session recordings was found. Read the privacy policy.

Does it work?

The maker's own claims only: 98% satisfaction, a 4.9 average from 3.4 million session ratings and '2x growth in proficiency', with no linked study. No independent study was found.
