Wolfram|Alpha

By Wolfram Research. Visit Wolfram|Alpha

Desk research from the maker's own pages. Not yet tried by us. Checked 2026-10-24.

Wolfram|Alpha is a computational answer engine. A student types a math problem, a unit conversion, a chemistry question or a data question in plain English and gets a computed result with graphs and sources. The free site gives answers; Pro adds step-by-step solutions, practice problems with hints, photo input in the apps and file uploads. It is aimed at high school and college students and adults rather than young children.

Our take: Good for teens checking math and science work or exploring data; not designed for elementary-age children.

Checked in a browser

A browser check on 2026-10-25: what loads, the ads and trackers we saw, and what a child meets first. Not a hands-on test.

Child safety: 5 out of 5No ads or chat; the only outside links go to Wolfram's own sites.
Data: 5 out of 5No third-party ad, tracking or analytics networks; the only other host contacted was Wolfram's own analytics (wal.wolfram.com).
Ease: 3 out of 5A clean search box and topic tiles, but a child must type a question in words or math, so it suits older students.
Cost honesty: 3 out of 5The first thing on the page is an 'UPGRADE TO PRO' link; step-by-step solutions are a Pro feature.

What we found

  • 1 other host contacted (wal.wolfram.com, Wolfram's own)
  • 4 cookies set, 1 from wolfram.com
  • 0 ad frames; 1 outbound link site (wolfram.com)
  • 'UPGRADE TO PRO' is the first text on the page

From the test: An ad-free, tracker-free answer engine for older students; expect a visible push to upgrade to Pro.
