Read it, then sort the animals. Pick Little, Middle or Big for the reading. Print the pack for four pages: the reading, a cut-and-sort, a worksheet and the answers.

A habitat is an animal's home. It gives the animal food, water and a safe place to rest. A fish lives in water. A camel lives in the dry desert. A monkey lives in the rainforest trees. Every animal has a home that fits it.
A habitat is the place an animal lives. A good habitat gives an animal everything it needs: food to eat, water to drink, air, and a safe place to rest and raise its babies. The ocean is a salty habitat full of fish, whales and turtles. A desert is dry, with hot days and cold nights, so desert animals find water in their food or rest in the shade. A rainforest is hot and wet, with tall trees where monkeys, birds and frogs live. Animals are built for their habitats, so a polar bear would not do well in the desert.
A habitat is the natural home of an animal: the place where it can find food, water, shelter and a safe spot to raise its young. Scientists group habitats by what they are like. The ocean covers most of Earth's surface; its animals breathe through gills or come up for air, and many never touch land. Deserts get very little rain, so their animals save water: some get almost all of it from their food, and many rest underground or in the shade through the hottest part of the day. Rainforests are warm and wet all year, and their layers, from the dark floor to the sunny treetops, are home to more kinds of animals than any other land habitat. When a habitat changes faster than its animals can, they can be in trouble, which is why people work to protect wild places.
Sort it
