A free online music studio and social network with over 100 million creators. Users record, mix and share songs on web or phone, follow others and post publicly. SongStarter generates royalty-free beat ideas in 11 genres that open as editable tracks. BandLab for Education is a separate free, private-classroom version where teachers set assignments, grade, and manage students; it is built for schools, including young students with consent.

Our take: BandLab for Education is a strong free pick for school music classes; teens can use the main app with a parent's okay, but younger kids should stay in the classroom version.

Data and privacy

The privacy policy covers personalised advertising (with consent) and sharing information with third-party advertisers; it says under-13s may not use the main service. BandLab's minor-safety page says teen accounts get stricter privacy settings and filtered sensitive content; it does not say whether user songs train its AI. Read the privacy policy.
