Questions parents ask

How does the quiz work?

Every question has three big boxes to tap, so there is no typing. It starts by asking which part of the country a state is in. After three right answers in a row it moves on to the capitals of well-known states, then to any state. A wrong answer shows the right one and stays on the same level. There is no timer and nothing is saved.

How many states are there?

There are 50 states. Hawaii and Alaska were the last two to join, in 1959.

Is Washington, D.C. a state?

No. Washington, D.C. is the capital of the United States, in a district that belongs to no state. Washington State is a different place, in the northwest, and its capital is Olympia.

What grade learns the states and capitals?

Schools differ, so the quiz does not assume a grade. Start at level 1 and let it move up as the answers get easy.

Is it free?

Yes. It is free through the end of 2026, with no ads and no sign-up.
