For grown-ups

Every free timer on the web shows a number. Peabody's shows a story with the number in the corner: a gorilla works through his pizza, a rocket burns its fuel, a dinosaur egg cracks. The picture is the time, so a child who cannot read a clock still knows how much is left. Pick the job by picture, press Start, and let Peabody count the last ten seconds out loud.

What it does

  • Pictures that are the time: eight slices of pizza left is eight eighths of the time, so it reads from across the room.
  • Jobs by picture: brush teeth, tidy up, wiggle break, wait, read, homework, snack, bath, wind down, take turns.
  • Count down or count up: empty the pizza, or build it slice by slice.
  • A done-at clock: a real clock face shows the time now and where the big hand will be when it's done.
  • Take turns: two to four children pick an animal and the timer hands over by itself. No names needed.
  • Routines: bedtime, morning, after school or your own, a picture and a timer for each step, and a First / Then board.
  • Peabody counts: halfway, one minute left, and the last ten seconds out loud, in your device's own voice.
  • A fun sound for every picture (the gorilla burps), at soft, medium or loud, or none at all.
  • The screen stays awake while it runs, it keeps the right time in a hidden tab, and it works offline once loaded.
  • Brushing teeth? Peabody calls out each side of the mouth every 30 seconds.
  • No ads, no sign-up, and nothing you set leaves your device.
  • Full screen for a classroom board, keys for a keyboard, and a link that opens the same timer next time.

Questions

Is Peabody's timer free?

Yes. There are no ads, no sign-up and nothing to download. It works in any modern browser on a phone, tablet, laptop or classroom board.

What makes it different from other online timers?

The picture is the timer: a scene empties (or fills) exactly as time passes, with the clock as a small chip. It also has picture jobs, a real clock face showing when it will be done, turns for siblings, and Peabody counting down out loud.

Can my child use it without reading?

Yes. Jobs, pictures and turns are all pictures, the length goes up and down with + and −, and the scene shows how much time is left.

Does it keep time if I switch tabs or the phone locks?

It keeps the right time in a hidden tab, because it measures from when it started rather than counting ticks. While it runs it asks the screen to stay awake, which most phones and tablets allow.

Does it collect anything about my child?

No. There are no ads and no ad trackers, and nothing you set in the timer is sent anywhere: the link keeps the timer after the # sign, which browsers never send to a server, and this browser remembers only the last picture chosen. Like every Peabody page, the page itself counts visits (our own counter and Google Analytics, which stays off when your browser sends Global Privacy Control).

Does Peabody's voice need the internet?

No. Peabody's countdown uses the voice built into your device, and so do the end sounds, which are made in the browser.

For grown-ups: Peabody has no ads, not one, and nothing to sell your child. The Kids Pick, an independent kids' directory, rates its games 90/100. See what other free kids' sites load · Grown-ups, sign in · Already have a profile?
