For grown-ups

Many schools ask for fifteen or twenty minutes of reading at home each day. Here a caterpillar munches his leaf while your child reads, and when the time is up he comes out as a butterfly, so the end of reading time is something to look forward to.

Tips for grown-ups

  • Set the length your child's teacher asks for; if there is none, start with ten minutes and build up.
  • Turn off Peabody counts during reading, so the only voice is the one reading the book.
  • Count up works well for a reading log: the picture grows as the minutes add up.
  • At the end, ask one question: what was the best bit? Then let them go.
  • Free stories at your child's level are in the Peabody library, if you need something to read.

Questions

How long should my child read each day?

Schools often suggest about 15 to 20 minutes a night for primary-age children. Younger children might start with five or ten minutes, ideally with you.

Will the sound interrupt reading?

There is one short sound at the end, at the volume you choose, and none during. Turn it off in Sound and more if you prefer.

Can my child see how long is left without reading the numbers?

Yes. The leaf is the time: the more that is eaten, the closer reading time is to ending.

Is it free?

Yes. No ads, no sign-up, nothing to download.

For grown-ups: Peabody has no ads, not one, and nothing to sell your child. The Kids Pick, an independent kids' directory, rates its games 90/100. See what other free kids' sites load · Grown-ups, sign in · Already have a profile?
